Band aids are mainly used for superficial small wounds and abrasions in the dermis and above. They are particularly suitable for incisions that are neat, clean, have minimal bleeding, and do not require suturing. Band aids help wounds avoid external contamination by absorbing wound exudate, secretions, etc., providing a healing environment for superficial skin injuries.

But not all wounds can be treated with adhesive tape. The following types of wounds are not suitable for adhesive tape.

1. The wound is deeper

2. The wound is relatively large

The gauze of the wound wrap cannot completely cover the wound surface, and the adhesive tape is not good for sticking to the wound. When replacing, it is easy to tear open the wound, which will increase the wound area. The wound under the adhesive tape is more prone to infection and allergies.

3. Adhesive tape allergy

If the patient is allergic to the adhesive tape of the band aid, using the band aid may cause skin itching, redness, and even small blisters, which can easily cause to infection.

4. Wound contamination, infection, redness and swelling

If there are foreign objects in the wound, it is necessary to go to the hospital for debridement or removal of the foreign objects, and then bandage and treat them. If infection occurs, timely medical attention is needed to avoid further deterioration of the wound

5. Burns, boils, abscesses, chronic ulce

1. Water storage capacity refers to the ability to absorb exudate. After being applied for a period of time, good wound dressings will retain a certain amount of water on the absorbent pad, and the pale yellow exudate can be seen to accumulate inside the bandage. The absorbent pad will slightly thicken, and there will be no liquid flowing out of the outer layer of the bandage. It will only spread from the middle to the surrounding area, and the outside will always be dry. When replacing the bandage, the dressing is easy to remove and will not stick or sting.
2. Breathability of Band Aids

Non breathable wound dressings can quickly turn the wound and surrounding skin white and soft, causing infection. Therefore, it is not recommended to blindly use any type of bandage for too long, at least changing it once a day,

If the wound requires brief contact with water, waterproof wound dressings can be used, but it is not recommended to use them for too long.
