Medical Breathable Tape - Kinesiology Tape for Sports

Muscle Tape and Sports

Have you ever noticed athletes wearing various colored and shaped tapes during sports events? What are these tapes? Are they pain-relieving plasters? Why do they wear them, and what is their function?

In fact, these are kinesiology tapes! Invented by chiropractor Dr. Kenzo Kase in the 1970s, they made their debut with the Japanese national team at the 1988 Seoul Olympics. Initially used for treating sports injuries, they gradually extended to the field of rehabilitation therapy. In China, they began to be widely applied among athletes and rehabilitation professionals after 2008.

Kinesiology tape can adjust muscle contraction sequence and strength, improving joint range of motion and stability. By providing extra support and sensory feedback, it helps athletes better control muscle movement, reduce incorrect movement patterns, and thus lower the risk of injury.

The Functions of Kinesiology Tape

1. Promotes Blood Circulation and Lymphatic Drainage

During exercise, blood circulation in muscles and joints typically speeds up to supply more oxygen and nutrients. The special structure of kinesiology tape further enhances blood circulation efficiency and accelerates lymphatic drainage, reducing edema and inflammatory responses to help athletes recover faster.

2. Alleviates Pain and Enhances Sports Performance

During exercise, muscle contraction and friction often cause pain. Kinesiology tape physically alters pain signals in the brain to reduce discomfort, allowing athletes to focus more on competitions. Meanwhile, it improves muscle contraction efficiency and force output, boosting sports performance.

3. Prevents Sports Injuries

In high-intensity sports, muscles and joints often bear enormous pressure, making strains and sprains prone to occur. With its elasticity and adhesion, kinesiology tape provides extra support to muscles, reduces unnecessary movements, and lowers the risk of sports injuries.

4. Corrects Soft Tissue Imbalance and Improves Joint Stability

Prolonged exercise and training often tend to soft tissue imbalance and joint instability. Kinesiology tape helps correct these issues by providing external support and force distribution, protecting athletes from further harm.

Selection and Precautions for Kinesiology Tape

There are numerous kinesiology tapes on the market. When choosing one, factors such as material, adhesiveness, and elasticity should be considered. Kanglidi kinesiology tape features good breathability, comfort, and durability. Meanwhile, select appropriate width and length based on your needs and skin sensitivity.

During use, pay attention to skin reactions. If allergies, redness, or other discomforts occur, stop using immediately and seek professional help. Additionally, kinesiology tape is only an auxiliary tool and cannot replace formal treatment and rehabilitation training. Maintaining correct posture and movement techniques, as well as strengthening muscle strength and flexibility training, are fundamental to preventing injuries and enhancing sports performance.
